Acronym for Shake Reduction. A unique image stabilization mechanism that Pentax first introduced in its compact digital camera, the Optio A10 (released in March 2006). Structurally, two gyro sensors installed inside the camera detect the degree of camera shake. A dedicated CPU calculates the necessary correction value based on the amount of camera shake, the zoom position of the lens, and focal length information. Based on this correction value, the image sensor is moved up, down, left, and right to cancel out the camera shake. This is a so-called CCD shift method, and the origin of the idea is the same as Konica Minolta's Anti-Shake. Incidentally, this SR works when shooting still images, and electronic movie image stabilization works when shooting movies. Furthermore, in May 2006, the same image stabilization function was adopted for the digital SLR camera, the Pentax K100D. Although it is called SR (Shake Reduction), the feature is that while the compact digital camera Optio uses a step motor to drive the image sensor, the K100D uses a magnetic drive system with a permanent magnet and coil. With this system, the image sensor is supported only by three balls, so there is no resistance from a normal guide, and it has the advantage of being able to move quickly not only up and down, left and right, but also diagonally.
