Born on February 8, 11th year of the reign of Emperor Gojong. His father was Emperor Gojong and his mother was Queen Min. After his father, who was the emperor of the Korean Empire, was forced to abdicate by Japan in 1907 due to the Hague Secret Envoy Incident, he became the second emperor. After Korea was annexed in 1910 (Meiji 43), he was called King Yi of Changdeokgung Palace. He died on April 25, 1926, at the age of 53. His surname was Yi and his given name was Seki.
