〘Noun〙① To go along with someone's wishes without going against their wishes. To flatter them. Also, to treat someone without treating them inferiorly. People who are tired of it are forgotten by the flowers .” ※Tsurezuregusa (around 1331) 113 “She sparkles with the intent of entertaining the guest.”[Essay](1)In the Chinese classics, it is written as “kyoo” which means “to quickly respond to someone’s words or actions, just as a reverberation occurs in response to a voice,” and this is considered to be the original meaning.
(2) In Japan, the meaning ① was born from the original meaning, and as the emphasis shifted to "making the other person happy," the meaning ② was derived, and along with that, "hibiki" came to be written as "kyo." "Kyo" is a substitute character in modern writing.
