Jura (Island) (English spelling)

Japanese: ジュラ[島]（英語表記）Jura

An island in the southern part of the Inner Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland, UK. It is about 45 km long, 13 km wide at its widest point, has an area of 381 km2, and a population of 946 (1961). It is separated from the mainland's Kintyre Peninsula by the Strait of Jura on the east, and Talbert Bay on the west, dividing the island in two. Mountains run through the center, with the highest mountain, Ben an Oir, reaching 785 m, so the main industries are sheep and cattle grazing and fishing, and farming is limited to the east coast. Deer live in the extensive forests, and the island is famous as a hunting ground.
