…The word security comes from the Latin securitas (se = free from, curita <cura = care), and its original meaning was to ensure the safety of individuals, buildings, society, etc. However, today it is used exclusively to mean national security.
[History of Security]
The concept of national security is thought to have its origins in the same vein as the formation of sovereign nation states, but it is said that it first emerged as a concept recognized among nations through the Treaty of Westphalia (1648), which was the result of the first international conference in Europe.
