《Mask/Persona》

…He became known worldwide for Monica (1952), and solidified his fame with Smiles of a Summer Night (1955). After that, he released a series of controversial works, such as The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries (both 1957), The Virgin Spring (1960), Persona (1966), Hour of the Wolf (1968), and Ritual of the Night (1969), and became a master of arthouse cinema. In 1973, his color film Cries and Whispers became a worldwide hit (distributed in America by Roger Corman, known as the master of horror films), and his artistic merit was also recognized as having box office value. The film also marked an era with its bold eroticism and intense sexual depictions, supported by the physical performances of actresses such as Ingrid Thulin and Gunnar Lindblom, who played the sisters in Silence, as well as Harriet Andersson, Bibi Andersson, and Liv Ullmann.
