Shufuren (English name) Japan Housewives Association

Japanese: 主婦連 - しゅふれん（英語表記）Japan Housewives Association

Founded in 1948 as a pioneering consumer group. Its slogan is to reflect the real voices of consumers in politics. Its demonstrations under the banner of a rice scoop were synonymous with the consumer movement. It also has its own "Daily Goods Testing Laboratory" and places emphasis on backing up its activities with scientific data. It covers a wide range of topics, including food safety, environmental pollution, commodity prices, and information disclosure. There are 145 affiliated groups (as of August 2006).
