Born: January 23, 1878 in Vinnitsa
Died June 11, 1949. Ljubljana. Slovenian poet. Studied history and geography at the University of Vienna, and studied in Paris for a time. When Slovenia became part of the newly established Yugoslavia, he became director of the National Theatre in Ljubljana, and in 1938 was elected to the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He began writing poetry as early as middle school, and was recognized in literary circles as a modernist poet. His collections of poems include Čaša opojnosti (1899), Čez plan (Across the Plains), and Zimzelen pod snegom (45). During World War II, his poems were a spiritual pillar of the anti-German resistance, and were loved by partisans.

スロベニアの詩人。ウィーン大学で歴史と地理学を学び，一時パリにも留学。スロベニアが新しく成立したユーゴスラビア国の一部となった際に，リュブリャナの国民劇場の支配人となり，1938年にスロベニア科学芸術アカデミーの一員に選出された。すでに中学時代から詩作を始め，近代主義派の詩人として文壇に認められた。『陶酔の一椀』 Čaša opojnosti (1899) ，『平原を越えて』 Čez plan (1904) ，『雪の下の日日草』 Zimzelen pod snegom (45) などの詩集があり，第2次世界大戦中は抗独レジスタンスの精神的支柱として，その詩はパルチザンに愛唱された。
