Lord's Prayer

A model form of prayer that Jesus is said to have taught his disciples. It is recorded in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4, but the former is longer and the expressions and the situation in which it is spoken are slightly different. Neither of the two can be considered the original, and each form was linked to a specific situation. The name "Lord's Prayer" is not found in the Gospels, but was given to it later as it became established in church worship. The Lord's Prayer actually used today is in the following form:

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen."

イエスが弟子たちに教えたと伝えられる祈りの模範的形式。「マタイ伝福音書(ふくいんしょ)」第6章9～13節および「ルカ伝福音書」第11章2～4節に記されているが、前者のほうが長く、表現や語られる場面も多少異なっている。両者のうちいずれかを原型とみなすわけにはいかず、おのおのの形式が特定の状況と結び付いていた。「主の祈り」（主祷文(しゅとうぶん)）という呼称は、福音書のなかにはみられず、のちに教会の礼拝のなかに定着するにつれて与えられたものである。今日実際に用いられている主の祈りは次のような形になっている。

「天にまします我らの父よ、ねがわくは御名(みな)をあがめさせ給(たま)え、御国(みくに)を来らせ給え、御心(みこころ)の天になるごとく地にもなさせ給え、我らの日用の糧(かて)を今日も与え給え、我らに罪を犯す者を我らがゆるすごとく我らの罪をもゆるし給え、我らを試みにあわせず悪より救い出し給え、国と力と栄えとは限りなく汝(なんじ)のものなればなり、アーメン」。
