Industrial society

Japanese: 産業社会 - さんぎょうしゃかい（英語表記）industrial society

Generally, it refers to the society that emerged after the Industrial Revolution. It is sometimes equated with industrial society, but the term industrial society can also include post-industrial society. The term industrial society is used beyond the distinction between capitalism and socialism. Generally, when it comes to long-term historical change, a stage-based diagram of pre-industrial society (pastoral/agricultural society) → industrial society → post-industrial society is often used.

一般的には，産業革命の後に生まれた社会を指す。ときに工業社会と等置されるが，脱工業社会post‐industrial societyをも含めて産業社会と呼ぶ場合がある。資本主義，社会主義の区別を超えて，産業社会という用語が使われる。通例，長期の歴史変動に関して，前工業社会(牧畜･農耕社会)→工業社会→脱工業社会という段階論的な図式の用いられることが多い。

　工業社会という場合，製造業，ブルーカラー労働者，大量生産技術など産業･職業構造と技術の特徴にそってその性格が特色づけられるが，さらに工業化に伴う社会構造上の変化という面でも，次のようないくつかの特徴が見いだせる。
