Yonezu [village] - Yonezu

Japanese: 米水津[村] - よのうづ
Yonezu [village] - Yonezu
A village in Minamiamabe County in the southeastern part of Oita Prefecture. Population 2,783 (1995). To the east is a ria coast facing the Bungo Channel, surrounding Yonemizu Bay, which is embraced by Cape Tsurumi and Cape Marubaenohana. Most of the village area is mountainous, and most of the cultivated land is used for mandarin orchards, where Unshu mandarins, Amanatsu oranges, and Iyokan oranges are cultivated. The coast is blessed with good harbors, and coastal fishing is carried out mainly around Miyanoura using purse seine nets and bottom trawls, with mackerel, horse mackerel, and sardines being landed. In recent years, aquaculture of pearls, yellowtail, and Japanese amberjack has also become popular, and processed seafood products such as salted and dried fish and dried anchovies are also produced.
