Juzu coral - Juzu coral

Japanese: ジュズサンゴ - じゅずさんご
Juzu coral - Juzu coral
A perennial plant of the Phytolaccae family native to the West Indies, Mexico, and southern North America. It bears numerous small red fruits on thin racemes that look like a string of beads. The stems are upright, 0.3-1m tall, green and soft, but the lower part is woody and shrubby. The leaves are thin, alternate, ovate, pointed at the tip, 4-12cm long, 2-6cm wide, and lack serrated edges. Inflorescences form at the ends of the branches from summer to autumn, and numerous small pale pink-white flowers bloom. The flowers consist of four perianths, four stamens, and a locust with one ovule in a pistil.
