Zhuzhou

A prefecture-level city located in the eastern part of Hunan Province, China, along the middle reaches of the Xiangjiang River. It governs four city districts and four counties, Zhuzhou, You, Yanling, and Chaling, and acts as the administrative agent for Liling City (as of 2016). Population: 3.961 million (2014). It was established in 1951 by separating part of Xiangtan County, and was promoted to a prefecture-level city in 1956. It is an important railway transportation hub in Hunan Province, where the Beijing-Guangzhou Line, the Shanghai-Kunming Line (Shanghai-Kunming), and the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed ​​Railway (Wuhan-Guangzhou) intersect. Moreover, with highways stretching out in all directions and convenient transportation thanks to the Xiangjiang River's water transport, it serves as a distribution center for industrial and agricultural products. The industry includes heavy industries such as metallurgy, machinery, and chemicals, as well as light industries such as spinning.

中国、湖南(こなん)省東部、湘江(しょうこう)中流に沿う地級市。4市轄区と株洲、攸(ゆう)、炎陵(えんりょう)、茶陵(さりょう)の4県を管轄し、醴陵(れいりょう)市の管轄代行を行う（2016年時点）。人口396万1000（2014）。1951年、湘潭(しょうたん)県の一部を分離して設置され、1956年地級市に昇格した。京広線、滬昆(ここん)線（上海(シャンハイ)―昆明(こんめい)）、武広高速鉄道（武漢(ぶかん)―広州(こうしゅう)）が交差する湖南省の鉄道交通上の重要な中枢である。しかも、自動車道が四方に延び、湘江の水運もあって交通に便利なところから、工業および農業製品の集散センターの役割を果たしている。工業には、冶金、機械、化学工業などの重化学工業のほか、紡績などの軽工業もある。
