1914‐1996 Yugoslav novelist. Born in Montenegro. He participated in the War of National Liberation, but was captured and imprisoned. He escaped a concentration camp in Greece and rejoined the ranks. After working as an editor for the party newspaper Borba after the war, he became a writer, consistently constructing his own unique world around the theme of war. His representative works include the full-length novels Bad Summer (1953), Pursuit (1960), and The Mountain of Sorrow (1962), which depicts the loneliness of a partisan wandering the mountains and fields in fear of enemy soldiers.
