Anglican Church

Japanese: アングリカン･チャーチ（英語表記）Anglican Church

The term "Anglican Communion" is used in the narrow sense to refer to the Church of England, but in the broad sense it is used synonymously with the Anglican Communion, which refers to the Anglican Church throughout the world, including the Anglican Church in Japan. Christianity was first introduced to England by Celtic missionaries from Ireland, but after Augustine of Canterbury arrived in England in 597, the Church of England was incorporated into the Western Church, with the Pope at its head, and after William, Duke of Normandy, conquered England in 1066, it maintained an even closer relationship with the Papacy.

狭義には英国国教会を指すが，広義には日本聖公会をも含む全世界の聖公会を意味するアングリカン･コミュニオンAnglican Communionと同義に用いられる。イギリスへのキリスト教伝道は初めアイルランドのケルト系宣教師によってなされたが，カンタベリーのアウグスティヌスの渡英(597)以降イギリスの教会はローマ教皇を頭（かしら）とする西方教会に組み込まれ，ノルマンディー公ウィリアムのイギリス征服(1066)以後は，いっそう緊密な教皇庁との関係を維持した。
