Housing area planning

Japanese: 住宅地計画 - じゅうたくちけいかく

It refers to the planned creation of residential areas in and around cities, but in modern and contemporary cities, residential areas are formed through planned construction of housing estates, new towns, residential area redevelopment, etc. Residential land accounts for a large part of a city, and the content and form of formation of residential areas are one of the factors that have a decisive influence on the character of the city. Residential area planning aims to (1) promote the formation of local community groups as social, cultural, and functional structures, and (2) create an overall living environment that is more desirable for urban life arising from individuals, families, and local groups.

都市および都市周辺で居住地区を計画的につくりだすことをいうが，近･現代の都市では住宅地は住宅団地，ニュータウン，住宅地再開発などの計画建設を通じて形成される。都市において住宅用地は大きな部分を占めており，住宅地の内容や形成の態様は都市の性格等に決定的な影響を及ぼす要素の一つである。住宅地計画は，(1)社会的，文化的，機能的な構造としての地域社会集団の形成を図り，(2)個人，家族，地域集団から生ずる都市生活にとってより望ましい居住環境の総体をつくることを目標としている。
