One of the Gokinshichido (Five Provinces and Seven Roads). Currently Kyushu region. In the Kojiki, there were four provinces: Tsukushi, Toyo, Hi, and Kumaso. At the end of the 7th century, Tsukushi, Toyo, and Hi were divided into the front and back, and Kumaso became Hyuga. In the early 8th century, Satsuma and Osumi, which separated from Hyuga, were added, making a total of nine provinces and three islands.
