A Kabuki dance drama. Tokiwazu. The original title was "Onnai Hitome no Sekimori". It was first performed in November 1828 (Bunsei 11) at the Ichimuraza in Edo by Munekiyo of Bando Mitsugoro III and Tokiwa Gozen of Iwai Kumesaburo II (later Hanshiro VI). It was created as the third act of the Kaomise Kyogen "Mitsugi no Yukigenji Biki", with lyrics by Nagawa Motosuke and music by Kishizawa Shikisa 5. It is an adaptation of the second act "Munekiyokan" from the Gidayu play "Genji Eboshiori," but is known as a famous Tokiwazu piece. Tokiwa Gozen, the wife of Minamoto no Yoshitomo, becomes a fugitive with her three children and approaches the snowy Kobata Barrier, but due to the kind words of the barrier guard Yaheibyo Munekiyo, she decides to follow Kiyomori in order to save her three children. At the time of the premiere, this was a dream that Ushiwakamaru had, and when he wakes up, he is training in martial arts at Kuramayama, and then he falls silent. At the time of the revival in 1856 (Ansei 3), the current Nagauta "Kuramayama" was added, but in modern times they are performed independently.
