A Japanese musical instrument. It is also written as "Juushichigen." A 17-stringed koto invented by Miyagi Michio at the end of the Taisho period. It is used especially to play the bass parts in shin-so music. It is the same shape as a normal koto, but it is larger. There are two types, the large 17-stringed koto (approximately 2.45m long) and the small 17-stringed koto (approximately 2.1m long), and the range of the large 17-stringed koto is "Ha to 2-point Ho" and the small 17-stringed koto is "He to 2-point He". The first piece to use the large 17-stringed koto was "Otogi no Odori," and even today, only the large 17-stringed koto is often used.
