Mörike - Eduard Mörike

Mörike - Eduard Mörike

German poet. Born in Ludwigsburg. After attending the Urach monastic school, he studied at the theological school of the University of Tübingen from 1822 to 1826. He gained friendships with Weiplinger, his "Peregrina" experience with the mystic wanderer Maria Mayer (his love affair with her during his time at Tübingen University is sung of as a bitter experience in the "Peregrina Psalms"), and theologian D. F. Strauss and aesthetician F. T. Fischer. He traveled around various villages as a substitute pastor for several years, and in 1834 became pastor of the village of Krefels-Sulzbach. By the time he retired on a pension in 1843, he had published "Poems" (1838) and had already made his name as a writer with his novel "Norten the Painter" (1832), which was the culmination of his youth. In 1844, he married Margarete von Späth in Mergentheim and had two daughters, but they separated in 1873. In 1866, he left Stuttgart and lived in the countryside. His folk-song-style simple, elegant, humorous lyric poetry became a clear spring of modern poetry, and his classical verse form, which respects moderation and a sense of form, shows a neoclassical harmony. He is widely known for his works such as "Idyll on Lake Constance" (1846), the children's story "The Dwarf of Stuttgart" (1853), and the masterpiece of German artist novels, "Mozart on a Traveling Day" (1856), which are highly regarded internationally.
