Hydrobromic Acid - Succinic Acid

Japanese: 臭化水素酸 - シュウカスイソサン
Hydrobromic Acid - Succinic Acid

An aqueous solution of hydrogen bromide. It can be obtained by dissolving hydrogen bromide in water, by reducing bromine water with hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide, or sulfur dioxide, or by distilling a solution of potassium bromide in concentrated sulfuric acid. It is a colorless, strong acid with some reducing properties. Its azeotropic mixture with water has a composition of 47.63% and boils at 124.3 °C. The most concentrated solution contains 82% hydrogen bromide and has a composition of approximately

(HBr + H2O )
Bromine becomes tribromide ion and pentabromide ion, and dissolves in large quantities. It reacts with many metals, generating hydrogen, to become bromide. It can also be oxidized by oxides, peroxides, and chlorine to release bromine. It is decomposed by light and air to release bromine. It is stored in ampoules in a cool, dark place. It is used as an analytical chemistry reagent, raw material for bromide production, organic synthesis, and pharmaceutical production. [CAS 10035-10-6:HBr]
