Pongidae

Japanese: Pongidae
Pongidae

...A general term for apes that lived in geological times and remain as fossils. Taxonomically, fossil apes are included in the Pongidae family of apes along with the current great apes gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans, and are grouped together with the Gibbons and Hominidae in the superfamily Hominoidea. Based on fossils known to date, it appears that the gibbon lineage of Pliopithecinae and the ape lineage had already diverged around the middle Oligocene (about 30 million years ago).

From 【Apes】

In English, it is called anthropoid or ape, but the latter means a monkey without a tail, and can also be applied to monkeys with extremely short tails such as black macaques and Barbary monkeys.
