Shah Mosque (English spelling) Masjed-e Shāh

Japanese: シャー･モスク（英語表記）Masjed‐e Shāh

This is a representative mosque of the Safavid dynasty, built in Isfahan, Iran, by Shah Abbas I in 1612-37. Its name means "royal mosque." It is a four-Iwan style mosque with a madrasa attached. The entrance faces the south side of the "Royal Square Meydān-e Shāh," which has a north-south axis, but the axis of the mosque itself faces west to align with the qibla (the direction of Mecca). In other words, it is characterized by the unusual way in which it turns right (west) as you enter the entrance.

イランのイスファハーンに，サファビー朝のシャー･アッバース1世によって1612‐37年に建立された同朝の代表的なモスク。〈王のモスク〉の意。4イーワーン式で，マドラサを付設。入口は，南北に軸線をもつ〈王の広場Meydān‐e Shāh〉の南側に面するが，モスク自体の軸線はキブラ(メッカの方角)に合わせるために西に振っている。つまり入口を入ると右(西)に曲折する異例の方法がとられているところに特色がある。
