Shado - Shado

Japanese: 洒堂 - しゃどう
Shado - Shado
Around 1668 - 1737 (around Kanbun 8 - Genbun 2)
A haiku poet of the early Edo period. His first pen name was Chinse (Chin'yū). His surname was Hamada, also known as Takamiya. He was commonly known as Jisuke. He was from Zeze, Omi. He worked as a doctor. He may have become Basho's pupil in the winter of 1689 (Genroku 2). The following year he composed Hisago, the fourth collection of the Seven Collections of Haikai Poems, and Basho was highly impressed with his talent. In September 1692 he travelled east, staying at Basho-an until the end of January the following year, before moving to Osaka in the summer. He developed a rift with Shido, a student of the Osaka school of Sho, and encouraged Basho to come to Osaka. He was criticised by fellow haiku poets for having been disloyal at the time of Basho's death, and in the winter of 1697 he returned to Zeze, but was little active in the haiku world thereafter.
