Epididymis - epididymis

The anatomical name is the epididymis, also called the epididymis. It is located at the top of the testis, touching the posterior edge. The upper part is thick and enlarged, and the lower part is elongated and pyramidal. The enlarged part touching the upper end of the testis is called the head of the epididymis, and the part that follows is elongated and touches the posterior edge of the testis, and is called the body of the epididymis. The part located at the lower end of the testis is the tail of the epididymis, which is slightly thicker than the body of the epididymis. The curved seminiferous tubules (seminiferous tubules) that fill the testis become 15 to 20 efferent ductules at the posterior upper edge of the testis, and enter the head of the epididymis. Inside this head, the curved efferent ductules are joined by connective tissue into several parts to form the epididymal lobules. The number of lobules is the same as the number of efferent ductules. The efferent ducts of the testis join together to form a single epididymal duct, which descends into the body of the epididymis. The epididymal duct is about 0.5 mm in diameter, but has a total length of about 5 meters. The epididymal duct reaches the cauda epididymis and transitions into the large duct deferens.

解剖学名では精巣上体といい、睾上体などともよぶ。精巣（睾丸）の上端から後縁に接して位置している。全体として上部が太く肥厚し、下方が細長い三角錐体(すいたい)状となっている。精巣の上端に接する肥厚部分は精巣上体頭とよび、これから続く下降部分は細長くなって精巣後縁に接し、精巣上体体とよばれる。精巣下端に位置する部分は精巣上体尾で、精巣上体体よりやや太い。精巣内に充満している曲精細管（精細管）は、精巣後上縁で15～20本の精巣輸出管となり、精巣上体頭に入る。この頭内部では迂曲(うきょく)する精巣輸出管が結合組織によっていくつかにくぎられ、精巣上体小葉を形成する。この小葉の数は精巣輸出管の数と同じである。精巣輸出管は合流して1本の精巣上体管となり、精巣上体体を下行する。精巣上体管は太さは0.5ミリメートルほどであるが、全長は約5メートルとなる。精巣上体管は精巣上体尾に到達して太い精管に移行する。
