Borden, Robert Laird
Born June 26, 1854 in Grand Pres, Nova Scotia
[Died] June 10, 1937. Ottawa. Canadian politician. Prime Minister (in office 1911-20). Became a lawyer in 1878, and entered politics when he was elected to the House of Commons in 1996. He joined the Conservative Party and succeeded C. Tupper as leader of the party in 1901. In the general election of 1911, the Conservative Party won and he became Prime Minister. During World War I, he clashed fiercely with French Canadians over the issue of conscription, but he managed to overcome this by forming a coalition government with the Liberal Party and working closely with Britain, leading to the improvement of Canada's international status after the war. As a result, Canada was given representation at the Versailles Conference, and Borden attended as its representative. Due to ill health, he retired from the position of Prime Minister in 1920, but he continued to play an active role as an elder statesman in Canadian politics, including attending the Washington Conference as a member of the British delegation.

Borden
Borden, Inc.

A former American general food manufacturer. Founded in 1857 as New York Condensed Milk, it grew with dairy products as its main product, and changed its name to Borden in 1919. It later merged with many other companies, and after World War II, it diversified even further, expanding into areas such as soft drinks, snack foods, processed meats, and sugar, transforming into a general food manufacturer. It also expanded into areas other than food, including chemicals such as polyvinyl chloride, plastics, ammonia, methyl alcohol, and urea, as well as fertilizers and paints. In 1987, it sold its basic chemicals and PVC resin divisions and established Borden Chemicals and Plastics. In the 1990s, its performance deteriorated, and it was acquired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts in 1995.
