Tales of Azuma Yojibei - Tales of Azuma Yojibei

Japanese: 吾妻与次兵衛物 - あづまよじべえもの

It is a type of puppet theater and kabuki. It is a series of works with the main character being "Yamazaki Yojibei Dance" from volume 4 of "Ochiyoushu" (1704, 1st year of the Hoei era). The puppet theater adaptations began with "Yamazaki Yojibei's New Year's Pilgrimage" (written by Chikamatsu Monzaemon) in January 1718 (3rd year of the Kyoho era), followed by "Mukashi Gome Mankoku Dooshi" (written jointly by Nishizawa Ippū and Tanaka Senryū) in January 1822, and "Futatsu Chocho Kuruwa Nikki" (written jointly by Takeda Izumo, Miyoshi Matsuraku and Namiki Senryū) in July 1849 (2nd year of the Kan'en era).

人形浄瑠璃，歌舞伎の一系統。1704年(宝永1)の《落葉集》巻四の〈山崎与次兵衛踊〉を主人公とした一連の作品群。人形浄瑠璃に脚色したのは，18年(享保3)1月《山崎与次兵衛寿（ねびき）の門松》(近松門左衛門作)に始まり，25年1月《昔米万石通（むかしごめまんごくどおし）》(西沢一風･田中千柳合作)，49年(寛延2)7月《双蝶々曲輪日記（ふたつちようちようくるわにつき）》(竹田出雲･三好松洛･並木千柳合作)などがそれである。
