Jakuchisan - Jakuchisan

A mountain located in the northeastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture, on the border with Shimane Prefecture. It belongs to Nishiki Town, Iwakuni City. It is the highest peak in Yamaguchi Prefecture, with an elevation of 1,337 meters. The area around the summit is gentle, and was formerly known as Jakujibara. The entire mountain is a primeval beech forest, mixed with Jakuji cedars, creating one of the most beautiful deep mountain scenery in the Chugoku region. There is a colony of dogtooth violets near the summit. Along with Mount Kanmuriyama on the Hiroshima side, it is known as the highest peak course in the Western Chugoku Mountains, and there is a climbing route that runs along the prefectural border from Matsunoki Pass in Kanmuri Plateau, and a climbing route that uses the forest roads of Inumodoshi Gorge.

山口県北東部、島根県境にある山。岩国市錦(にしき)町に属する。山口県内の最高峰で、標高1337メートル。山頂一帯はなだらかで、古くは寂地原(じゃくじばら)とよばれた。全山ブナの原生林であり、寂地杉が混生し、中国地方随一の深山の景観をみせる。頂上付近にカタクリの群生地がある。広島県側の冠山(かんむりやま)とともに西中国山地の最高峰コースとして知られ、冠高原の松ノ木峠から県境沿いのルートと、犬戻(いぬもどし)峡の林道を利用する登山ルートがある。
