1922‐ Polish director. In 1963, he switched from being a set designer at the People's Theatre in Nowa Huta to being a director, and after working at the Stary Theatre in Krakow, he became the director of the Studio Theatre in Warsaw in 1977. However, he is also a painter, and his talent is fully displayed in his highly suggestive and unique stage sets, which have been exhibited in various countries. His representative works include his own play Replica (both protest and reproduction) (1971), which depicts the horrors of the death camps, and Dante (1974), based on the Divine Comedy.
