1831‐99 Serbian politician and historian. As the representative of the Serbian government, he repeatedly negotiated with the Ottoman government, and in 1867, he led the withdrawal of the last Ottoman troops from Serbia. In the 1970s, he served as foreign minister, and in 1978 he represented Serbia at the Berlin Conference, where he campaigned for the recognition of independence. In 1982, he founded the Liberal Party, supported by government officials, and became its leader. In 1989, he became one of the regents, but after 1993 he left politics and devoted himself to writing about the history of Serbian diplomacy.
