Also known as the South African War or the Boer War. A war started in 1899 by Britain with the intention of dominating the Transvaal Republic (now the Transvaal Province) in South Africa, which had been established by the Boers (Afrikaners). The Transvaal allied with the Orange Free State and resisted Britain with a guerrilla war, but surrendered in 1902. Both countries became British colonies, and the era of the partition of Africa came to an end. 南アフリカ戦争，ブール戦争とも。1899年英国がボーア人（アフリカーナー）の建てた南アフリカのトランスバール共和国（現トランスバール州）支配を意図して起こした戦争。トランスバールはオレンジ自由国と同盟し遊撃戦をもって英国に抵抗したが，1902年降伏。両国とも英国の植民地となり，アフリカ分割の時代は終わった。なお，これに先立って1880−1881年，トランスバール共和国（1852年ボーア人が建国）が1877年英国に併合されたのに抗してボーア人が武力蜂起し，主権を回復した戦争を第１次ボーア戦争と呼ぶ。→南アフリカ
