Born September 12, 1822. Cousin of Edakichi Kamiaki and Soejima Taneomi. A samurai of the Hizen Saga domain. In 1856, he was ordered by the domain to inspect Ezo (Hokkaido) and Karafuto. During the Boshin War, he served as a military inspector at the Government-General's Office. After the Meiji Restoration, he served as a judge for the Hokkaido Colonization Commission and governor of Akita Prefecture, but resigned due to conflicts with the government. He became a leader of the Saga Rebellion along with Eto Shinpei, and was executed on April 13, 1874. He was 53 years old. His pen name was Kokuka. He was commonly known as Dan'emon.
