A Buddhist term. An abbreviation of "Enmei Jizo Bosatsu (Enmei Jizo Bosatsu)." This name emphasizes the role of Jizo Bosatsu in extending lifespan and bestowing benefits. Jizo Bosatsu is said to protect newborn children, but according to the theory of the Enmei Jizo Sutra, it is also believed to help people avoid the dangers of a short lifespan. 仏語。「えんめいじぞうぼさつ（延命地蔵菩薩）」の略。地蔵菩薩のはたらきのうち、寿命を延ばし、福利を与える面を特に強調した呼称。地蔵菩薩は生まれてくる子を加護するとされるが、「延命地蔵経」の説により、短命の難をもまぬがれさせるものとした。
