Rakugo. The original form was created by San'yutei Encho at the end of the Edo period as a three-topic story about a drunkard, Shibahama, and a wallet. It has other titles such as "The Leather Wallet at Shibahama," "The Leather Wallet," "The Money Picker," and "The Horse's Purse." It was created by San'yutei Ensho 3rd and 4th, Tachibanaya Enkyo 4th, Danshurou Enshi 1st and 2nd, and San'yutei Enyu 1st, and has gradually been improved and refined to the present day. Katsugoro, a hard-working but heavy drinker and poor fishmonger, finds a wallet with a large amount of money in it on Shibahama Beach early in the morning. Katsugoro is so happy that he gathers his friends together and falls asleep after a drinking party. The next morning, his wife tells him that she has no wallet and that it was just a dream. A reformed Uokatsu abstains from alcohol and devotes himself to business. He eventually owns a shop and employs two or three young men. On New Year's Eve in the third year, his wife apologizes for deceiving him by saying it was just a dream, and once again takes out the wallet that had been given to him by the authorities. Moved, Katsugoro brings the sake his wife offers him to his mouth, but then says, "No, I don't want to become a dream again." This is a masterpiece of human interest stories with polished descriptions of both scenery and characters, and in recent years has been a specialty of the third generation Katsura Mikisuke.
