An edible bivalve of the family M. c. carneopicta (illustration). Also known as Minatogai. The shell is 8.5 cm long, 6.5 cm high, and 4 cm bulge, with a rounded triangular shape. It is slightly thin and grayish white in color. Growth veins on the shell surface are clear at the front and back. It is covered with yellowish brown skin. When young, it has a light brown radial color band that disappears as it grows. However, in northern areas such as Hokkaido, this remains in adult shells, and this type is called Ezobakagai M. c . carneopicta . The soft body is vermilion and the legs are axe-shaped. It is weak and easily dies when picked, and the legs stick out when the shell is opened, so it was named after the fool, who sticks out his tongue, as it looks like a fool.
