Japanese: 芝居噺 - しばいばなし

(1) In Osaka, it refers to rakugo related to plays, such as "Oyako Shibai," "Kombu Shibai," "Shichidanme," and "Pawnbroker Shibai." (2) In Tokyo, it refers to a play story performed exactly as written. In the middle of a rakugo story of human interest, musical instruments are added, the lines become theatrical and vocal tones are added, costumes are drawn out, the backdrop is revealed, and sometimes props such as short swords are used, making the entire performance theatrical. Examples include "Shibai-furo" and "Futatsu-chocho," and they date back to the first San'yutei Ensho.

(1)大阪では，《親子芝居》《昆布巻（こんまき）芝居》《七段目》《質屋芝居》など，芝居に関する落語を指す。(2)東京では，芝居の台本どおりに演じる正本（しようほん）芝居噺をいう。落語の人情噺の途中で鳴物が入り，せりふが芝居風になって声色（こわいろ）が入り，衣装は引抜きになり，背景も見せて，ときには短刀のような小道具も使うなど，演出がすべて芝居風になる。《芝居風呂》《双（ふたつ）蝶々》などがそれであるが，初代三遊亭円生を祖とする。
