The most advanced and largest aperture synthesis radio interferometer in the world is the VLA (Very Large Array) at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory of the United States. At an altitude of 2000m, a rail 21km long on each side is laid out in a Y shape, along which 27 parabolic antennas with a diameter of 25m are arranged.
