Abbreviation for centralized traffic control. Also known as train centralized control (equipment). A device that remotely controls switches and signals in one line section in one central location using a combination of electronic devices and relays, and monitors the operation status of trains. The control center has a track display board for the entire line, which displays the status of switches and signals at each station, as well as the position of trains. It was adopted in the United States in 1927, and was first used in Japan by Nagoya Railroad in 1954. It is widely used today for the purposes of improving safety and reducing personnel. On the Shinkansen, it is combined with the Shinkansen Operation Management System (COMTRAC, an abbreviation for computer aided traffic control) to perform more advanced and comprehensive operation by computer.

centralized traffic controlの略。列車集中制御（装置）とも。一線区内の転てつ器，信号機を，電子機器や継電器の組合せにより１ヵ所で集中的に遠隔操作し，列車の運行状況を監視する装置。制御所には全線区の軌道表示盤があり，各駅の転てつ器，信号機の状態，列車の位置などが表示される。1927年米国で採用，日本では1954年の名古屋鉄道で使用されたのが最初。保安の向上，要員の節減などを目的とし，今日では広く実用されている。新幹線では新幹線運転管理システム（COMTRAC，computer aided traffic controlの略）と結合しコンピューターによるより高度で総合的な運行を行っている。
