Japanese: 悉曇要訣 - しったんようけつ

Written by Meikaku. 4 volumes. Published after 1101. A book that explains Siddham studies in a dialogue style. It is the most advanced of its kind at the time, and is unique in the history of Siddham studies in that it did not follow the Chinese version, but instead transformed it into something with a strong Japanese character through its own unique understanding. As it uses Japanese as a concrete example, it is also a valuable resource for the phonology of Japanese at the time, with a chart of the Japanese syllabary and explanations of sound changes.

明覚 (めいかく) 著。4巻。康和3 (1101) 年以降成立。問答体で悉曇学を説いた本。当時の類書中，最も水準の高いもので，悉曇学史上，中国のそれの踏襲ではなく，独自の把握によって日本的性格の強いものに変えた点が特色とされる。具体例として日本語を取上げているため，五十音図を載せている点や音便の説明など，当時の日本語の音韻資料としても貴重なものとなっている。
