A plastering material unique to Japan. Made by mixing slaked lime with sand, seaweed paste, and straw and kneading it with water, it is used to finish walls and ceilings. In Japan, it has long been used as a finishing material for komai mud walls. There are ordinary plaster, Tosa plaster, roof plaster, ash-earth plaster, and Amakawa plaster. The base is concrete, wood lath, lath board, komai mud walls, etc., and it has many drawbacks such as cracks that occur when it hardens and dries, being soft, not waterproof, and taking a long time to apply, but it can be applied to curved surfaces and can smooth out poorly made concrete surfaces. It is widely used because it has many advantages such as being relatively inexpensive and fitting the Japanese style. 日本特有の塗壁材。消石灰に砂，海藻のり，すさを混合して水で練ったもので壁や天井の仕上げに使用する。日本では古くから小舞土壁の仕上げ材料として用いられてきた。普通漆喰，土佐漆喰，屋根漆喰，灰土漆喰，天川漆喰などがある。下地はコンクリート，木摺り，ラスボード，小舞土壁などで，硬化乾燥による亀裂の発生，軟弱，非耐水性，施工に日時がかかるなどの欠点の多い材料であるが，曲面にも塗りつけることができ，できの悪いコンクリート面を平滑に仕上げることもできる。比較的安価で日本趣味に合うなどの利点も多いので広く使われている。施工にはこてを使用し，下塗り，むら直し，中塗り，上塗りまたは下付，上付などの工程を経て完成する。
