Four Pillars of Destiny

Japanese: 四柱推命 - しちゅうすいめい

One of the most well-known Chinese fortune-telling methods. Based on the date, month, and time of birth, the eight characters of the ten heavenly stems and twelve earthly branches are arranged on four pillars to create a "horoscope," which is then used to predict the fortune, misfortune, success, punishment, nobility, poverty, and wealth of an individual's life. Although it uses the ten heavenly stems and twelve earthly branches as material, its judgments are extremely complex and profound. It is said that there is a big difference in the interpretation method between the four pillars of fortune used in China and other countries and the one popular in Japan.

中国の代表的な命術の一つ。生年月日時を基に、十干十二支の八字を四柱の柱に配して「命式」を作り、その命式から個人の人生の吉凶、禍福（かふく）、成敗、貴賎、貧富などを推し量る。十干十二支という素材を使いながら、その判断は大変複雑で奥深い。中国などで用いられている四柱推命と日本で普及しているものとでは、解釈方法に大きな違いがあるとされている。
