...A transmitting antenna converts the energy of an electric circuit into electromagnetic wave energy and radiates it into space, while a receiving antenna absorbs electromagnetic wave energy and converts it into electric circuit energy. The word "antenna" originally meant the antennae of insects and has no relation to the shape or location of installation, but since most early antennas were conductors stretched in the air, they were called "aerials" in English and "tensen" in Japanese. However, many modern antennas are not linear, so the term "tensen" has become inappropriate.
