Almagro - Diego de Almagro

Spanish conquistador. A foundling found in Almagro near Ciudad Real, he took the place's name as his surname. He later went to Panama (1515), and in 1522 he joined Pizarro's expedition, working with Pedrarias Davila (1524) and with Hernando de Luque helping Pizarro conquer Peru (1533). He eventually came to terms with Pizarro, but in 1534 he was appointed adelantado (victory) of southern Peru by Charles I (Holy Roman Emperor Charles V). In 1535-1536 he attempted an expedition to Chile, but the land was barren and lacked gold, and he failed due to the rebellion of the natives. He rebelled against Pizarro and advanced to Cuzco, but was defeated by Pizarro's brother Hernando and executed there. Almagro had one son, Diego (of the same name), with a native. After his father's execution, he massacred Pizarro with the remnants of his followers, in revenge. However, in 1542, he too was beheaded by Cristóbal Baca de Castro, who had been sent from his home country.

スペインのコンキスタドレス（征服者）。シウダド・レアル近くのアルマグロで拾われた捨て子で、地名を姓とした。のちパナマに赴き（1515）、1522年ピサロの探検に加わり、ペドラリアス・ダビラと協力（1524）、エルナンド・デ・ルーケとともにピサロのペルー征服を助けた（1533）。彼はピサロと結局は不和になるが、それまでの協力で1534年カルロス1世（神聖ローマ皇帝カール5世）からペルー南の領地のアデランタード（太守）を命じられた。1535～1536年にチリ遠征を企てたが、この地は金がとれず不毛で、また原住民の反抗にあって失敗、ピサロに反逆してクスコに進撃したが、ピサロの弟エルナンドに破れ、同地で処刑された。アルマグロには原住民との間に1子ディエゴ（同名）があり、父ディエゴの処刑後その残党とともにピサロを虐殺、その復讐(ふくしゅう)を果たしたが、1542年、彼もまた本国から派遣されたクリストーバル・バーカ・デ・カストロに斬首(ざんしゅ)された。
