A collection of essays by Xie Zhaozhuo (1567-1624), a Chinese writer from the late Ming dynasty. 16 volumes. Divided into five sections, Heaven, Earth, People, Things, and Events, the book deals with a wide range of topics based on ancient and modern documents and on actual observations, with a flexible critical eye. There is a lot of interesting data, especially in the sections on folklore. It was widely read and loved in Japan during the Edo period, and was used as a kind of encyclopedia. The writing is typical of the author, who was both a capable administrator and a talented poet. "Gozagumi" means a braid made of five-colored threads.

中国，明代末期の謝肇淛（しやちようせつ）(1567‐1624)の随筆集。16巻。天･地･人･物･事の5部に分け，古今の文献や実地の見聞などに基づいた豊富な話題を，柔軟な批評眼で取り上げている。特に民俗に関するものには興味深いデータが多い。日本でも江戸時代には広く愛読され，一種の百科全書的な用途で利用された。有能な行政官でもあり，多才な詩人でもあった著者らしい著述。五雑組とは五色の糸でよった組みひもの意。
