[一] 古く、中国の禁中にあった殿舎の名。〔唐会要‐巻三〇・大明宮〕[二] 内裏正殿。神明造りの殿舎で南面し、中央に一八段の階があり、その前方左右に桜と橘(たちばな)の木が植えられてある。殿内の中央には御帳台があり、その後方に賢聖障子(けんじょうのそうじ)をもつ。即位、朝賀、節会(せちえ)などの公式の儀式を行なった。南殿(なでん)。前殿。ししいでん。※続日本後紀‐天長一〇年(833)三月壬寅「天皇御紫宸殿。賜群臣酒。有囲碁之興」※高野本平家(13C前)四「大極殿なからん上は、紫震殿(シシンテン)にてこそ御即位はあるべけれ」
