…In all of these works, the central axis of the body is in a straight line, and the posture of the figure always maintains bilateral symmetry around this axis. Architectural sculptures decorating temples include the reliefs on the pedestal of the Temple of Artemis on Corfu in the early 6th century BC, the metopes of Temple C at Selinus, the limestone pedestal of "Hercules and Triton in Combat" and the marble pedestal of "The Battle of the Gods and Giants" on the Acropolis of Athens, the frieze of the "Treasury of the Sifnians" and the metopes of the "Treasury of the Athenians" at Delphi, and the final stage of the Archaic period produced masterpieces such as the pedestal group of the Temple of Aphaia on Aegina, "The Trojan War". In the Strict Style period of the first half of the 5th century BC, the bright Archaic smile disappeared from the mouths of statues, and a stern and heavy impression was felt from the overall form of the statue, as in the "Neck of a Blonde Youth" on the Acropolis and the "Statue of a Girl Dedicated to Euthydikos". …
