A case for bows and arrows used by the Scythians, a nomadic horse-riding people who flourished on the northern shore of the Black Sea from the 7th to 3rd centuries BCE. The bows were half-bows, and when not in use they were carried in a gorythos along with the arrows. Excellent works of art have been found in kurgans (high mound tombs), especially in the tombs of nobles. A vessel excavated from the tomb at Kri-Oba depicts a warrior carrying a gorythos, and finds from the tomb at Chertmlyuk suggest a close relationship between the Scythians and the Greeks.

黒海北岸で前7～3世紀頃に栄えた遊牧騎馬民族スキタイ人の用いた弓と矢を入れるケース。弓は半弓で，使用しないときにはこのゴリュトスに矢とともに入れて持運んだ。クルガン (高塚古墳) ，特に王侯たちの墓からは美術工芸品としてすぐれたものが発見されている。クリ＝オバの墳墓出土の容器には，戦士がゴリュトスを帯びているのが描かれているし，チェルトムルュクの墳墓で発見されたものからは，スキタイ人とギリシア人との密接な関係がうかがわれる。
