Ningyoite (Doll Stone)

A new mineral reported by Muto Tadashi et al. in 1959 (Showa 34) as the main ore mineral in the uranium deposits at Ningyo Pass in Okayama Prefecture. Because it forms dense aggregates with fine pyrite crystals, its properties have not been fully understood. It easily decomposes to become autunite. It has also been reported to occur in Russia and Canada, but in Japan it is not known to occur anywhere other than in the uranium deposits of its place of origin and the surrounding areas.

1959年（昭和34）武藤正らによって岡山県人形峠のウラン鉱床中から、その主要鉱石鉱物として報告された新鉱物。黄鉄鉱の微細な結晶と密雑な集合を形成するため、その属性は十分に得られてはいない。容易に分解して燐灰ウラン石(りんかいうらんせき)となる。ロシアやカナダでも産出が報告されているが、日本では、原産地とその周辺のウラン鉱床以外からは知られていない。
