Hideharu Hatano

Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. A military commander in the Warring States period. Lord of Yakami Castle, Taki County, Tanba Province (Sasayama Town, Hyogo Prefecture). Childhood name: Senkumamaru. Called Saemon-dayu. Son of Harumichi, he was adopted by Motohide of the clan. Yakami Castle was attacked by the Miyoshi Nagayoshi side from 1550 onwards, and in October 1557, shortly after the fall of Ryuzoji Castle, it was captured by Matsunaga Hisahide, who allowed Matsunaga Magoroku to enter the castle (Hosokawa Ryōke-ki). Because of this, Hideharu and others fled to Ogino Naomasa's house in Kuroi Castle, but in 1560, after Emperor Ogimachi ascended to the throne, he was worried that the enthronement ceremony could not be held due to financial difficulties, so he presented gold silk and led his clan to attend the morning ceremony. In October of the same year, Naomasa raised an army, and in February of the following year, he captured Yakami Castle, and chased back Magoroku, the castle lord. In the tenth year, he fought a battle with the Miyoshi Triumvirate. In 1557, Yakami Castle was surrounded by Akechi Mitsuhide, who was ordered by Oda Nobunaga, and after a year and a half of siege, he surrendered to Mitsuhide. In Azuchi, he was executed by crushing stone along with his younger brother Hidehisa.

戦国時代の武将。丹波国多紀郡八上城(兵庫県篠山町)城主。幼名千熊丸。左衛門大夫と称す。晴通の子で,一族元秀の養子となる。八上城は天文19(1550)年以降三好長慶方の攻撃を受け,弘治3(1557)年10月,竜蔵寺城の落城後まもなく松永久秀に攻略され,松永孫六の入城を許した(『細川両家記』)。このため秀治らは黒井城の荻野直正のもとに逃れていたが,永禄3(1560)年,正親町天皇践祚ののち財政難から即位の礼が行われがたいのを憂えて金帛を献じ,一族を率いて朝儀に参列したという。同8年10月の直正の挙兵に応じて翌年2月八上城を攻略,城将孫六を追い奪還した。同10年三好三人衆と合戦。天正5(1557)年,織田信長の命を受けた惟任(明智)光秀により八上城は包囲され,1年半の籠城後,これに下った。安土で弟秀尚と共に礫刑に処せられた。
