Kanda (Shizuoka)

...Southwest foot of Mt. Fuji, Fujisan Hongu Sengen Shrine It started as a market in Omiya Kanda and developed into a settlement in front of a temple. It prospered as a post town on the Koshu Kaido road linking Kai and Suruga, and as a town at the front entrance to climbing Mount Fuji.
